The Philippines in 1598

Swann Galleries sold this double-page engraved map of the islands of Southeast Asia last December 8, 2016. Lot 70 was a copy of Petrus Placius’s Insulae Moluccae Celeberrimae printed in 1598. What interested me the most is the fact that the Philippines is represented with Luzon and Visayas in blue and Mindanao in red, implying that Mindanao is a separate entity from the rest of the Philippines.
